Adult Christian Education
At Scarborough Presbyterian Church, adult Christian Education helps us broaden and deepen our faith. We broaden our faith by exploring new aspects of our religion, and we deepen our faith by re-examining aspects that seem familiar. Classes are a combination of lectures, videos, readings, and discussions.
Our classes are grouped into themes, and we try to have at least one class series from each theme during each season. The themes cover church history, the arts, current events, Christian thinkers, the Bible, issues that face the church, and popular culture. While some classes are led by outside experts or the minister, many are led by members of the congregation.
Our season runs from early September to early June. Please check our newsletters and the church calendar for current offerings.
Our Christian Heritage - This theme explores the history of Christianity and Presbyterianism throughout the ages.
Christian Arts and Artistry - This theme explores the influence of the musical and other fine arts on our faith, and the influence of Christianity on the arts.
Bible Tours - This theme explores the Bible in new ways, examining some of the less familiar parts and bringing new insights to the more familiar ones.
The Church in the Modern World - This theme explores the role of Christianity and Presbyterianism in dealing with the issues of the modern world, and how the world has affected the church.
Christian Conversations - This theme explores the great thinkers of the church through literature, video, and lectures, and allows us to get to know these pivotal figures.
Christianity in Popular Culture - This theme explores the culture around us for evidence of Christianity, and explores how popular culture has affected Christianity.
