A typical service

Listed below is an outline of one of our typical services. We hope to see you there.

ORDER OF WORSHIP 10:30 a.m.

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ADVENT

We invite you to begin worship with quiet meditation.

PRELUDE "O Come, o Come, Emmanuel"

CHORAL INTROIT "To A Maid Engaged to Joseph"

CALL TO WORSHIP (Responsive)

Minister: The Lord our God sent prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way of salvation.

People: God makes straight the winding ways of our wills, and smoothes the rough places of our pain.

Minister: We ask that expectation sharpens our vision.

People: We ask that hope strengthens our arms.

Minister: As Christmas draws near, may we separate the wheat from the chaff in our lives.

People: May the stars shine on cities of peace,

may the deep forests drink in the moonlight of silent night.

Minister: Let us worship God!

*HYMN #22 "Angels, from the Realms of Glory"

PRAYER OF INVOCATION (Minister)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

Searcher of Hearts,

There are particular sins, and there are states of mind that open us to sin. In fear or grief or loneliness, save us from hate or greed or lust or despair. For those of us who have much, save us from pride, even when we also wisely give and lead. Let us not forget that You love us, that each of us is irreplaceable, that our earth is as well.

Convert us, Lord, when we believe easy words of comfort or flattery. Help us to see ourselves and others with Your eyes, so that we can do unto others as we would like them to do to us.

Great Giver of wonder and glory, we humbly pray never to confuse You with you gifts. As we seek the right gifts for our loved ones, let us know your priceless gift. When we hear Your knock, may we open our hearts.

O Lord, hear our prayer.

TIME OF SILENT PRAYER

ASSURANCE OF PARDON:

……….Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel:

All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven, renewed, and restored.
